“The Journey of a Part: From Phone Call to Pickup”

Unless you work in this industry you probably don’t realize how much goes into getting an auto part from our counter to your hands. To the customer, it’s usually one quick phone call:
“Hey, do you have a water pump for a ’14 Silverado?”
But behind that simple question is a small miracle of logistics that happens dozens of times a day.

It starts the second that phone rings. We’re listening closely — not just to what part you think you need, but to how you describe the issue. Is it the 5.3 or the 6.2? Two-wheel or four-wheel drive? We ask questions because we know the difference between “close” and “correct” can mean hours of frustration later on.

Once we have the details, we dive into the catalog. Sometimes that part’s sitting on our shelf — that’s the easy win. But a lot of times, it’s not. That’s when the puzzle starts. We’re checking warehouses, delivery routes, cutoff times, and which driver is where. We might call the other location, or a distribution hub on the other side of the state, to line it up before the next truck leaves.

When everything clicks, it’s a race against the clock. Drivers are crisscrossing the region all day, juggling deliveries to shops, farms, and driveways. Every stop has a story — a job waiting to finish, a customer counting on that part to get home, or a shop bay tied up until we arrive.

You can call at 4:45pm for a belt for your car.  I will order it from my Rochester warehouse.  That belt will then head over to Syracuse on a transfer truck.  It is checked in, sorted and put on another truck to head to the north country.  It passes through more hands than you can imagine.  It is a symphony of logistics that happens hundreds of times a day.  By 7:00am it's waiting for you in one of my stores.

Finally, that box lands on the counter. You grab it, pay, and head out the door — and to you, it feels simple. But to us, that’s the result of timing, teamwork, and about 20 moving parts all working in sync.

That’s what I love about this business. It’s fast, it’s unpredictable, and it’s all about problem-solving. Behind every sale is a story of coordination, communication, and a crew that refuses to give up.

So the next time you call and we say, “Give us a little time — we’ll track it down,” just know that a whole chain of people are already in motion to make it happen.  Phone calls are made, favors are called in and your trust is our biggest priority.

Because around here, getting you the right part isn’t luck — it’s what we do.
